The Israeli police and the Shin Bet security service announced on Thursday that they have arrested seven Israeli Jews on charges of assaulting a 60-year-old Arab Israeli man last month.

In a joint statement, they said that the attack was carried out on 12 May when the man was found wounded in his car near the Sidna Ali Mosque in Herzliya.

“The initial findings from investigations in the field indicate that a group of masked men attacked the victim, spraying him with pepper spray and stabbing him with a sharp object,” they said. “The month-long investigation led police to identify the seven individuals allegedly responsible for the attack. They have been arrested and are expected to be charged in the coming days in the Tel Aviv Magistrates’ Court.”

Prosecutors are expected to ask for the suspects to be held in custody until the trial.
