President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Duarte Pacheco announced on Friday that his union would continue working towards a sustainable peace in the Middle East, Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) reported.

His remarks came during a meeting held in Geneva with Speaker of Kuwaiti Parliament Marzouq Al-Ghanim, who represented Arab parliaments. The meeting was held to discuss the latest developments in the Palestinian territories, mainly the Israeli aggression in Jerusalem and Gaza Strip.

“The IPU has always defended peace and dialogue among all parties at the parliamentary level,” Pacheco told Al-Ghanim.

IPU’s committees on the Middle East will continue to be an “effective platform” for dialogue and cooperation between Palestinian and Israeli MPs “in order to achieve peace and stability for all.”

Meanwhile, Al-Ghanim expressed that he was happy that the IPU had condemned the “Israeli colonial settlement” in the occupied Palestinian territories and “condemned the killing and aggression against the Palestinians, mainly children in Gaza.”
