Egypt announces new entry requirements for travellers

Egypt yesterday announced new health “controls, requirements, and procedures” that will apply at the country’s airports, “in line with the recent coronavirus developments.”

Hala Zayed said in an official statement: “All travellers who hold a vaccination certificate will be allowed to enter the country,” adding that the inoculation must be “one of those approved by the World Health Organisation and the Egyptian Drug Authority.” Visitors must have had the second dose of the vaccine at least “14 days before their arrival to Egypt.”

“The visitor must present the vaccination certificate at the airport’s passport claim office,” the statement read, stressing that the certificate should also contain a “QR code for verification.”

Zayed pointed out that the accredited vaccines included “China’s Sinopharma and Sinovac, Russia’s Sputnik, US’ Moderna, Pfizer, and Johnson & Johnson, and UK’s AstraZeneca.”

“For holders of vaccination certificates coming from countries affected by new virus mutations, additional precautionary measures to be taken, including a rapid DNA test analysis,” the minister said.

So far, a total of 278,761 have contracted the virus in Egypt, 15,967 of whom have died, and 207,411 others have recovered, according to the US’ Worldometers.
