Outgoing Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has accused the US administration of waging an economic war against the Islamic Republic, stressing that Tehran does not seek to possess nuclear weapons.

Speaking during a government meeting today, Rouhani said the Iranian people are still facing “American economic terrorism”, adding that the Biden administration is continuing the policy of economic war started by former President Donald Trump; despite the administration’s admission that Washington’s withdrawal from the 2015 nuclear agreement was a big mistake.

“I assure the people that we have spared no effort and have not retreated in this path, and we have done everything in our power to reactivate the agreement and we will not retreat from achieving the rights of our people,” he said.

Meanwhile, UN Secretary-General, António Guterres appealed to the US to lift sanctions imposed on Iran in accordance with the 2015 nuclear agreement.

In a report to the UN Security Council, Guterres urged  Washington to “extend the exemptions related to oil trade with the Islamic Republic of Iran and renew the full exemptions for non-proliferation projects.”

The UN chief also appealed to Iran to return to the full implementation of the nuclear deal.
