The US Treasury today announced that it removed sanctions on three Iranians but said this did not reflect a change in its sanctions policy toward Iran and had nothing to do with talks on restoring American and Iranian compliance with the 2015 Iran nuclear deal, Reuters reported.

A Treasury spokesperson named the three as Behzad Ferdows, Mehrzad Ferdows and Mohammad Reza Dezfulian, adding: “These delistings do not reflect any change in U.S. government sanctions policy towards Iran. They have nothing to do with ongoing [Iran nuclear deal] negotiations in Vienna.”

In 2018, Washington unilaterally withdrew from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action of (JCPOA) signed between Tehran and the six world powers, which aimed to curb Iran’s nuclear activities and restrict the Islamic Republic’s ballistic missile program in return for lifting economic sanctions.

Since then, Washington has reimposed economic sanctions which had previously been lifted under the agreement while Tehran responded by reducing its commitments to pressure other signatories to shield its economy.

Since early April, the Austrian capital has hosted the meetings of the JCPOA regarding the Iranian nuclear programme.
