The Palestinian Authority (PA)’s Labour Minister Nasri Abu Jaish has decided to remain in his position after his resignation was rejected twice, but his party has announced withdrawal from the government.

Abu Jaish submitted his resignation two times to Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh, following the murder of anti-PA activist Nizar Banat last month.

He accused the government of failing to respect the law and public freedoms following its violent crackdown on the peaceful demonstrators who took to the streets to protest against Banat’s murder.

Meanwhile, the Palestinian People’s Party, which is the party of the minister, announced its withdrawal from the government and declared that Abu Jaish is no longer a member.
