Iran is ready to defend the dignity of Iranians at any cost, Iran’s embassy in London announced on Friday in response to remarks made by the UK’s Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab that the door to diplomacy is “half-open” with Iran.

“Iran reciprocates respect by deeds and words,” the Iranian embassy in London tweeted on Friday. “But, the dignity of Iranians will be upheld at any cost.”

The Iranian embassy added:

Iran is neither client of nor inferior to any player in the world. The door for diplomacy with mutual respect and on an equal footing is open.

Following the inauguration of Iran’s new president, Raab said: “We have a new president who took office this week, and we have a series of opportunities to stand at a crossroads.”

He added: “If they continue to follow the path of freight and attack in the Middle East, if they continue to destabilise their activities through agents.”

Raab also indicated: “The doors are always half-open… for diplomacy and the batter’s path forward… but unless Iran asks for an explanation, there can be no such incident as an attack off the coast of Oman.”
