Tunisia’s Ennahda movement yesterday denied speculation that Algeria is mediating between its leader and Parliament Speaker, Rached Ghannouchi, and President Kais Saied.

Earlier this week, the Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune said during a meeting with representatives of the media that Tunisia will resolve its crises soon, stressing that “Algeria will not accept foreign parties exerting pressure on the Tunisian authorities”.

Riad Al-Shuaybi, Ghannouchi’s political adviser, said the Ennahda movement had not received any offer from any internal or external party to mediate between President Saied and Ghannouchi.

“There has been no contact between the President of the Republic and the Speaker of Parliament since the [president’s] decision to freeze the House of Representatives and place it under the guard of the Tunisian army, and prevent the Speaker and its members from entering it,” he said.

“The Ennahda movement has taken steps to maintain civil peace, and keep the opportunity available for any settlement that maintains the democratic path, and makes room for parliament to resume its activity. But so far, we have not received any positive signals in this direction,” he added

Since July 25, Tunisia has been experiencing a severe political crisis after Saied dismissed the prime minister, froze the parliament and lifted the immunity of all its members.
