The Tunisian General Labour Union on Friday has called to implement the principle of parity while forming the next government. The union also called to activate Law No 58 of 2017 to eliminate violence against women, ensure their moral and physical protection and pursue their aggressors on the occasion of National Women’s Day.

In its statement, the union demanded the issuance of laws and regulatory texts to protect women, especially rural women, stressing the need to restore state institutions based on a clear roadmap that includes strategies for the next stage.

The union also referred to the importance of integrating women into the dynamism of development and employment, addressing poverty in remote and marginalised areas and consecrating the principle of equality in employment opportunities between the sexes.

In the same context, the union highlighted the need to review the laws relating to working women and foster families and regulations centred on pregnancy, breastfeeding and providing care for minor children and youngsters with special needs.
