Tunisian President Kais Saied has received a message from US President Joe Biden, Anadolu Agency reported on Friday.

According to Anadolu Agency, a US delegation headed by Deputy National Security Advisor Jonathan Finer arrived in Tunis to meet with Saied and deliver the written message.

During the meeting, Saied told Finer that the exceptional measures he took last month were within the framework of implementing the Constitution and responding to popular will in light of the political, economic and social crises, as well as the rampant corruption in Tunisia.

Saied also told Finer that there was no cause for concern regarding the values of freedom, justice and democracy that Tunisia shares with US society.

Meanwhile, Finer told Saied that Biden is closely following the situation in Tunisia and has the utmost respect for Tunisia and its president.

On 25 July, Saied dismissed Prime Minister Hichem Mechichi, suspended parliament and appointed himself head of the public prosecutor’s office.
