Head of the Ennahda Party, Rached Ghannouchi, yesterday dismissed members of the movement’s executive office with the aim of introducing reforms to the party’s structures.

A statement issued by the party said that Ghannouchi had decided to restructure the executive office “in a way that meets the requirements of the current situation and achieves required efficiency.”

Ennahda had previously announced the formation of a committee to manage the “political crisis”, following the announcement of exceptional measures by President Kais Saied on 25 July, according to which he decided to freeze the work of parliament and sacked Prime Minister Hicham Mechichi.

Ennahda, which won a majority in the 2019 elections, opposed the president’s actions, describing them as a “coup against the constitution”.
