The Central Committee of the Fatah movement said yesterday that Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas will oversee the upcoming government reshuffle of Prime Minister Muhammad Shtayyeh.

“After reviewing the cabinet reshuffle issue, the Fatah Central Committee has decided to leave the matter to President Mahmoud Abbas,” the committee said in a statement issued at the conclusion of a meeting headed by Abbas in Ramallah.

Last Wednesday, the head of the media office of the Mobilisation and Organisation Commission of the Fatah Movement, Munir Al-Jaghoub, published on Twitter the names of the next cabinet ministers and said the government reshuffle will be announced on Friday, before retracting the announcement.

The central committee’s statement has also referred to the “great financial crisis facing the Palestinian government,” saying a large part of the crisis is due to the “financial blockade imposed against the Palestinian Authority” and calling on “Arab brothers and friends to speed up providing support”.
