The former head of Tunisia’s National Anti-Corruption Commission has filed an appeal against an order placing him under house arrest, Tunigate has reported. At the same time, Chawki Tabib said that he is seeking a delay from the Administrative Court in the execution of the order.

Tabib has sought the assistance of a number of senior lawyers in the submission of his appeal, including Ibrahim Bouderbala, the doyen of the country’s lawyers at the National Bar Association. He explained that he has appealed to the court because the order against him is an administrative decision issued by the Minister of the Interior; it is not based on any judicial procedures initiated by the Public Prosecution Service. The case is, therefore, a matter for the civil judiciary.

The decision about the delay in implementation is expected within a month from the date of the appeal being filed.
