Qatar’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Soltan Bin Saad Al-Muraikhi met on Sunday with Algerian Ambassador to Doha Dr Mustafa Boutoura to discuss bilateral relations between the two countries.

The meeting comes in light of the political crisis between Algeria and Morocco, ending in severing diplomatic relations between the two countries last week.

On Friday, Qatar called for the need to keep channels of dialogue and diplomacy open between Algeria and Morocco in order to resolve all outstanding problems as soon as possible.

The Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed “deep regret” in a statement at the severing of diplomatic relations between the two brotherly countries.

The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) also regrets the outcome of the crisis between Algeria and Morocco, and called for resolving the dispute by political means as a matter of priority.

Last Thursday, Algerian Foreign Minister Ramtane Lamamra announced the severance of diplomatic relations with Morocco, accusing Rabat of engaging in hostile actions against his country.
