The Indian Ambassador to Qatar today met with the representative of the Taliban’s political office in Doha, according to India’s Foreign Ministry.
“Ambassador of India to Qatar, Deepak Mittal, met Sher Mohammad Abbas Stanekzai, the head of the Taliban’s political office in Doha. The meeting took place at the Embassy of India, Doha, on the request of the Taliban side,” the ministry said in a statement.
During the meeting, the Indian ambassador “raised India’s concern that Afghanistan’s soil should not be used for anti-Indian activities and terrorism in any manner.”
The Taliban representative “assured the ambassador that these issues would be positively addressed.”
The Taliban seized control of Afghanistan after taking Kabul on 15 August forcing the president and other top officials to leave the country. The last of the US troops were airlifted away overnight with the Taliban celebrating with gunfire.
