The US forces’ withdrawal from Afghanistan is a “message proving that the Afghani people’s will is stronger than any occupation,” Hamas announced yesterday.

“The completion of the US forces’ withdrawal from Afghanistan is a historic moment, and a great victory for the Afghan people,” Hamas spokesperson, Sami Abu Zuhri, said on Twitter, describing the American move as a “turning point in the region.”

On Tuesday, the Taliban took control of the Hamid Karzai airport in the Afghan capital Kabul after the withdrawal of the last US soldiers. The group had given the US until 31 August to complete its forces’ withdrawal from the country.

Washington said on Monday that it was “exerting every effort to complete our forces’ evacuation from Afghanistan and end the longest war in US history.”

The Taliban has been advancing its control across Afghanistan since May. It gained control over most of the country in only ten days.
