Mauritanian authorities today announced the death of a child and the injury of ten others as a result of torrential rains and thunderstorms in the north and east of the country.

The Ministerial Emergency Steering Committee said, in a statement, that a child in the town of Adhlima in the state of Tiris El-Zemmour was killed as a result of torrential rains in the area.
The committee added that ten other people were injured in the village of Abishish in the western state of Hawd Al-Gharbi today, as a result of a sand storm accompanied by thunderstorms.

The committee added that the torrential rains caused the collapse of some houses and material losses in some areas.

Ten people have been killed in Mauritania as a result of the heavy rains since August.
