The International Union of Muslim Scholars (IUMS) yesterday called for the Syrian regime to halt its crimes that amount to war crimes and crimes against humanity against the people of Daraa Governorate.

“The people of Daraa have been besieged for some time after the failure of negotiations and finding a solution to the crisis caused by the Syrian regime,” the group said in a statement.

“It is unfortunate that this unjust siege, systematic bombing, killing and destruction, which is a crime against humanity, is carried out against more than 10,000 civilians from Daraa, in addition to depriving them of their most basic daily living needs such as drinking water and electricity, medicines, infant formula, and other means of subsistence,” it added.

The group urged the United Nations, Islamic and Arab countries to stop these crimes and take serious and effective action, mobilise efforts and stop the fighting and aggression by all possible means.
