Watch our conversation with Prof. Arzoo Osanloo discussing her book ‘Forgiveness Works: Mercy, Law and Victim’s Rights in Iran’ in the context of law, order, and justice in Iran.

Osanloo is an Associate Professor at the Department of Law, Societies, and Justice and the Director of the Middle East Center at the University of Washington. She is a legal anthropologist and previously worked as an immigration and asylum and refugee attorney.

Her book ‘Forgiveness Work: Mercy, Law, and Victim’s Rights in Iran’ (Princeton University Press, 2020) examines the Muslim mandates of forgiveness, compassion, and mercy as they take shape in Iran’s criminal justice system.
