The Yemeni government has urged the international community to provide it with urgent financial support to avoid further economic collapse in the country.

Speaking at the United Nations General Assembly yesterday, Yemeni Foreign Minister Ahmed Awad Bin Mubarak said the measures taken by his government to mitigate the devastating economic effects of the war are not enough.

Bin Mubarak called on the international community and the donor community to support the Yemeni economy, enhance resilience and create job opportunities for Yemenis.

He added that his country “is in dire need of a financial support package, including an urgent financial deposit for the Central Bank of Yemen to prevent the further collapse of the Yemeni economy and the national currency.”

The Yemeni riyal has in recent weeks collapsed to an unprecedented level reaching 1,200 riyals to the dollar.
