Sudanese Prime Minister Abdullah Hamdok said yesterday that the transitional period forces should be expanded to accommodate all forces that are fighting for democracy, Anadolu reported.

“The Sudanese revolution forces’ unity and expanding the transitional period base are a necessity to accommodate all the forces that struggle for democracy and represent the main guarantor for a democratic homeland that embraces everyone,” Hamdok said during a cabinet meeting in Khartoum.

“This existing partnership is our tool to transit towards peace, freedom, democracy and development,” he added without giving further details about the forces that he wants to include.

Several Sudanese parties protested against their exclusion from the country’s ruling coalition, most notably; the Sudan Liberation Movement, the Justice and Equality Movement and the Democratic Unionist Party, in addition to many civil society organisations.

Tensions have in recent days escalated between the military and civilian components of the transitional authority; following criticism levelled by military leaders against political forces.

The criticism came one week after the army’s announcement that it had thwarted a coup attempt carried out by military elements loyal to the regime of ousted President Omar Al-Bashir.

One day later, General Abdel Fattah Abdelrahman al-Burhan; Chairman of the Sovereignty Council of Sudan, accused the country’s politicians of not caring about the citizens’ problems.

The Vice-President of Sudan Sovereignty Council, Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, said military coups are caused by politicians who neglected citizens’ services and had been preoccupied with division of power.
