Algerian and Russian military forces yesterday concluded a joint exercise in Russia’s southwestern city of Ossetia.

The Russian army’s official TV channel Zvezda reported that the exercises had included simulations on “storming cities where militants are holed up,” adding that the joint forces had practiced “organising ambushes, observation points and camouflage.”

“Fighter jets, armoured personnel carriers, BMP-3 infantry fighting vehicles, and MSTA-S self-propelled artillery platforms were used in the drills,” the channel pointed out, noting that around 200 soldiers from the two countries had taken part in the manoeuvres.

Moscow is reported to have been supplying Algiers with various weapons and military equipment over the years.
