Egypt's Sisi appoints new army chief of staff

Egypt's President, Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi, on Wednesday, appointed Lt. Gen., Osama Askar, as a new chief of staff of the Egyptian army, replacing Lt. Gen., Mohamed Farid Hegazi, according to the presidency.

A statement issued by the presidency did not provide any further details about the move, Anadolu News Agency reports.

Another presidential statement said Hegazi was appointed an adviser to the president on a presidential initiative to develop Egypt's countryside.
