Secretary-General of the Arab League, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, yesterday warned of the expansion of Israel’s settlements in the occupied Palestinian territories and the absence of a clear path to end the conflict.

This came during a meeting with the United Nations envoy to the peace process, Tor Wennesland, in Cairo.

During the meeting, Aboul Gheit expressed deep concern about the escalation of Israeli violations in the West Bank and Jerusalem, including the Israeli government’s announcement of plans to build thousands of housing units in the occupied Palestinian territories, as well as the intensification of settler attacks and home demolitions against Palestinians.

Meanwhile, Wennesland briefed Aboul Gheit about the latest developments, including the serious deterioration of the humanitarian situation in besieged Gaza and the great economic difficulties facing the Palestinian Authority in the occupied West Bank.
