Algerian Prime Minister Ayman Ben Abdel Rahman announced on Tuesday the opening of an investigation into the increase in airline tickets between Algiers and France, describing them as overpriced.

Ben Abdel Rahman pointed out that an investigation would be opened into the exorbitant prices of tickets, especially those related to the France-Algeria route. “According to the results of the investigation, the necessary measures will be taken to enable our children to communicate continuously with the homeland,” he added, explaining that the high prices discourage Algerian living abroad from returning to visit their families.

For weeks, activists have been circulating posts on social networks about prices, which they said are inflated, for flights between France and Algeria, compared to costs of travelling to neighbouring countries.
