Official data showed, on Thursday, that Tunisia’s oil production increased by 22 percent in the first nine months of 2021, to 1.48 million tonnes of oil, equivalent.

The Ministry of Industry, Energy and Mines said in its monthly bulletin on the energy sector for the month of September 2021, that “this production was in the range of 1.22 million tons of oil, equivalent during the corresponding period of the year 2020”.

According to the Ministry, Tunisia’s production of natural gas increased by 23 percent, to 1.22 million tonnes of oil equivalent, in the period between January to September 2021.

The Ministry attributed this rise in oil and gas production to the rise in the national production of hydrocarbons following the entry into production of the “Hall Al-Manzil” concession on 7 June, and the gradual rise in the production of the “Nawara” field, in addition to the rise in fees on Algerian gas.

The Ministry indicated that the demand for primary energy increased by 7 percent during the period, to reach 7.3 million tonnes of oil equivalent, adding: “This is due to the gradual return to the normal mode of consumption after the Covid-19 pandemic.”

The primary energy balance deficit improved by about 13 percent, to 3.4 million oil equivalent tonnes in the first nine months of this year, compared to 3.9 million tonnes in the corresponding period in 2020.
