The Libyan military prosecutor yesterday called on the High National Elections Commission (HNEC) to suspend the electoral registration of the son of late President Muammar Gaddafi, Saif Al-Islam, and renegade General Khalifa Haftar, who controls eastern Libya, until after they are questions in the charges filed against them.

The request came in a letter by the military prosecutor, Mohammed Gharouda, to the HNEC chairman, Emad Al-Sayeh.

“The cases against Saif Al-Islam and Haftar include killing people in Esbaya area in south Tripoli by Wagner Group mercenaries,” Gharouda pointed out, adding that the cases had included “killing of 26 cadets at the Tripoli Military College, as wellas bombing an immigration detention centre in Tajoura and Al-Zawiya city.”
