Tunisia: Anti-torture group files lawsuit against interior ministry

Tunisia’s World Organisation Against Torture filed a series of lawsuits against the Ministry of the Interior over arbitrary measures against 11 people, the Tunisian News Agency reported.

The agency said the 11 unnamed persons had been affected by house arrests, noting that the lawyers submitted two types of lawsuits to the Administrative Court, including for the urgent suspension of “arbitrary measures” within one month as required by law and for compensation for the victims.

According to the report, the arbitrary measures “violate both the Tunisian constitution and international law”.

The measure comes as part of the OMCT’s efforts to provide direct assistance to victims of torture and state violence.

It was not possible to obtain an immediate comment from the Ministry of the Interior on the report.
