A seven-year-old boy died yesterday after falling into a 50-metre deep well in the village of Al-Sabt, Khemisset governorate, western Morocco, hours after thousands gathered in the village of Ighran to mourn five-year-old Ryan Oram who suffered a similar fate after rescue workers were unable to reach him in time.

Anadolu quoted a local source as saying that the seven-year-old had fallen into the well while playing, noting that his body had been recovered and was taken to the hospital.

The source did not give any further details about the accident.

Last Tuesday, Rayan fell 32 metres into a 60-metre well near his village of Ighran and died before rescuers were able to reach him on Saturday.

Activists across the Arab world flooded social media platforms with messages of support and solidarity with Rayan’s family and rescuers.

On Monday, hundreds of mourners climbed the hilly, unpaved road leading to the cemetery in Ighran in Chefchaouen province in Morocco, where they waited for hours for the funeral.
