MEMO videographer wins second place in Palestine film festival

Mohammed Asad's film, Al-Shahid (The Witness), was a result of the confrontation and challenges the journalist faced during the 2021 Israeli war on Gaza

MEMO videographer Mohammed Asad won second place at the second Alawda International Film Festival in the category of Mobile Films.

Mohammed says his film, Al-Shahid (The Witness), was a result of the confrontation and challenges the journalist faced during the 2021 Israeli war on Gaza, in which the occupation targeted three high rises that housed media offices such as Al-Shorouk and Al-Jalaa Towers – which contained the offices of Al Jazeerathe Associated Press – and Al-Jawhara Tower.

“We went through many situations where we were targeted, and I documented them with the mobile’s lens as diaries, but I thought that I should collect them in one film documenting these events and how these towers ended up after being targeted. The film documented the crimes of the occupation,” Asad says.

This year, the competition categories were divided into long and short films and those filmed using a mobile device.
