Members of a spy network linked to the Israeli Mossad intelligence agency have been arrested in Iran, the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) has reported. The spies are alleged to have been planning to blow up a sensitive “defence centre”.

According to IRNA, the “terrorist network elements” are affiliated with the Komala Party of Iranian Kurdistan led by Abdullah Muhtadi, who was chosen by Israeli Mossad officers to carry out this mission.

Iran’s Ministry of Security and Intelligence revealed last weekend that the network of agents had been dismantled before they were able to carry out their mission. “The network’s members were in contact with the Mossad spy agency through a neighbouring country and entered Iran from [Iraqi] Kurdistan with advanced equipment and powerful explosives,” added the ministry.

Last month, the Public Prosecution Office in Iran’s Sistan and Baluchestan Province announced that the security authorities had arrested a spy cell working for the Israeli Mossad, after monitoring it for eight months. At the time, it was revealed that the cell was planning to assassinate Iranian nuclear scientists.

In May, the Public Relations Department of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps announced the arrest of another Israeli spy network which was trying to “steal and destroy personal and public property.”
