Nearly 100 Syrian refugee families have been displaced from the Wafa camp in Lebanon’s Arsal region after a fire broke out in the camp, the Lebanese news agency reported.
The agency said the fire broke out yesterday and destroyed 93 of the camp’s 200 tents. No one was injured in the incident however all personal possessions in the tents were destroyed including individuals’ identity documents.
The fire also damaged the camp’s waste water network, with fears this could result in an environmental and health disaster for residents.
According to the Syrian Response Coordination Group more than 45 fires have broken out in refugee camps in Lebanon since the beginning of the year, damaging them significantly.
