The second friendly match between Morocco and Brazil’s U23 squads scheduled for yesterday as part of their preparations for the 2024 Paris Olympics was cancelled due to the massive earthquake that struck Morocco on Friday, the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) announced.

“This decision follows the three-day state of national mourning declared due to the violent earthquake that struck several regions of the Kingdom on Friday evening,” FRMF said in a statement on Sunday.

The Moroccan Olympic team qualified for the upcoming Paris 2024 Olympic Games after winning the U-23 African Cup of Nations title after defeating Egypt.

On Saturday, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) postponed the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations Côte d’Ivoire 2023 Qualifier match between Morocco and Liberia due to the earthquake.

At least 2,122 people were killed and 2,421 others injured when a magnitude-7 earthquake struck Morocco late Friday, according to the Interior Ministry.
