Five members of the Greek relief mission were killed in Libya on Sunday evening in a traffic accident while travelling to the storm-hit city of Derna, the Libyan health minister announced.
Othman Abdel Jalil said in a statement that three members of a Libyan family were also killed in the accident and two others were injured.
Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis described the accident, which also led to the wounding of 14 others, as “tragic”.
The head of the Greek army said in a statement that the Greek victims were three officials from the Greek Army and two translators from the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The bodies and the 14 wounded personnel were returned to Athens yesterday on board a Greek military plane, the statement added.
