Scores of unemployed university graduates yesterday organised a protest in front of UN Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA)’s headquarters in Gaza, calling for job opportunities to be provided for them, Safa news agency reported.
A spokeswoman for the unemployed graduates told Safa that there are 16,000 unemployed graduates in the Gaza Strip.
“We came here to call for UNRWA to afford job opportunities for the army of unemployed graduates in order to help end their suffering,” the spokeswoman said, adding that this would allow them to live with dignity.
The unemployed graduates will continue their protests to put pressure on officials so they fulfil their demands.
Head of the International Commission for the Support of Palestinian Rights, Dr Salah Abdul Ati, said unemployment among the youth in Gaza reached 75 per cent.
UN OCHA said the poverty rate in Gaza reached 65 per cent and unemployment reached 47 per cent at the end of 2022.
