The Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement Hamas on Friday hailed the deployment of a joint Palestinian force to ensure the placement of a ceasefire in the Ein Al-Hilweh refugee camp in south Lebanon.

“This is an important measure in the right direction,” Hamas representative in Lebanon Ahmed Abdul Hadi confirmed, pointing out that it is part of a proposal by Speaker of Lebanese Parliament Nabih Berri.

Abdul Hadi stated: “The crisis in the refugee camp ended, life returned to normal and the suspects behind the riots had been handed over to the Lebanese authorities.”

He reiterated the importance of implementing Berri’s proposal’s terms, including ending arms displays inside the refugee camp, noting that his movement is committed to the proposal and to cooperation with other forces.

Meanwhile, Abdul Hadi called for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) to: “Immediately resume its work in the refugee camp and schools in order to let students start their school year.”

The main condition of Berri’s proposal is to end arming the camp, immediately halt the fire and hand over to the Lebanese authorities the rioters who caused the deaths of 35 people.
