The Student Council at Birzeit University on Monday named freed prisoner Mohammad Arman as successor of the council’s head Abdul-Majid Hassan, who was detained by the Israeli occupation forces last week from campus.

The council also named Saleh Hassan secretary of specialties as successor of prisoner Abdullah Mohammad, and Omar Zalloum as secretary of the Sports Committee to replace prisoner Ahmad Eweedat.

This came during a press conference held on campus, where the new council president pledged to maintain support for the Palestinian resistance. He reiterated that the council will continue to serve all university students despite all the suffering inflicted on its members.

“We will keep on the pledge of our bloc – science, resistance and creativity – whatever the price,” Arman said.

“The occupation is mistaken if it expects that detentions, chasing and security cooperation will stop our student action inside the university. We are ready for all sacrifices.”

He also reiterated the importance of unity among all the student blocs at the university in order to offer services to all students.

Last week, a large force of the Israeli occupation army stormed the university and detained the former head of the student council along with other committee members and students.
