Magnitude 6.3 quakes hit western Afghanistan leaving trail of bodies

Western Afghanistan was struck yesterday by the deadliest earthquakes to hit the quake-prone region in recent years, with more than 2,000 people reported dead and over 9,000 injured. One of the tremors measured a magnitude of 6.3. Rescue teams continue to search for survivors as the death toll climbs. 2023 has been marked by significant seismic activity globally, including earthquakes in Turkiye and Syria in February 2023 that claimed an estimated 50,000 lives. Morocco was also hit by a powerful earthquake last month.
