Lebanon’s resistance movement Hezbollah has launched a barrage of rockets into Israel after three of its members were killed following an Israeli bombardment of south Lebanon.

A statement issued by the movement yesterday states: “After the martyrdom of three of our … brothers this afternoon as a result of Israeli attacks on Lebanese towns and villages, groups from the Islamic Resistance have carried out an initial response.”

The statement adds that Hezbollah’s response targeted “the Braniat barracks — the command centre of the Galilee Brigade – and the Avivim barracks – the command centre of the Western Brigade – using guided missiles and mortar shells, causing direct hits.”

The slain members were identified as Hussam Mohammad Ibrahim, Ali Raef Ftouni and Ali Hassan Hodroj, they had been “martyred as a result of the Zionist aggression on south Lebanon Monday afternoon.”

Israel started shelling positions in South Lebanon yesterday after a cross-border raid claimed by the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ), with the Israeli army claiming to have killed at least two gunmen who crossed the border. It has also been reported that an Israeli military commander identified as Colonel Alim Abdullah, the deputy commander of Israel’s 300th Baram Regional Brigade was killed in the clashes alongside two other soldiers.

Yesterday, the movement also released a new video ending with a biblical reference to the Hamas-led resistance operation codenamed Al-Aqsa Flood.

On Sunday, and in solidarity with the on-going resistance operation in occupied Palestine, the Hezbollah claimed responsibility for targeting three Israeli military sites in the occupied Shebaa Farms.

“On the path of liberating what is left of our occupied Lebanese land and in solidarity with the triumphant Palestinian resistance and the [persevering] and patient Palestinian people… groups of martyr leader Hajj Imad Mughniyeh, this Sunday morning, corresponding to 8 October 2023, attacked three occupation sites in the occupied Lebanese Shebaa Farms,” Hezbollah stated at the time.

There is growing speculation that Hezbollah will enter the conflict with heightened concerns that the conflict will become a multi-front war, involving “the most formidable member of a regional network of armed groups supported by Iran.”
