Member of the US House of Representatives Rashida Tlaib has criticised the US’ unconditional financial support of Israel’s policies of apartheid which, she said, contribute to the continuation of the cycle of violence between Israelis and Palestinians.
“I grieve the Palestinian and Israeli lives lost yesterday, today and every day,” Tlaib, who is of Palestinian heritage, said in a statement in which she also called for “dismantling the apartheid system that creates the suffocating, dehumanising conditions that can lead to resistance.”
“The failure to recognize the violent reality of living under siege, occupation, and apartheid makes no one safer. No person, no child anywhere should have to suffer or live in fear of violence. We cannot ignore the humanity in each other,” she said.
“As long as our country provides billions in unconditional funding to support the apartheid government [Israel], this heartbreaking cycle of violence will continue,” she added.
