The Bank of Palestine has donated $500,000 to secure food supplies to displaced Palestinians in UNRWA schools in the Gaza Strip. The donation has been made through the UN’s World Food Programme (WFP).

The bank’s initiative aims to extend support to the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip who have been displaced from their homes as a result of the ongoing war. It will help to provide basic essentials and food supplies to about 200,000 displaced people sheltering in UNRWA schools in the besieged Palestinian territory. An urgent appeal for funds was launched by the WFP on Tuesday in order to provide food to more than 800,000 people in Gaza and the occupied West Bank.

The WFP, UNRWA and the bank continue to monitor the situation with the aim of reviewing possible humanitarian and relief interventions in coordination with international humanitarian organisations. There is an acute shortage of basic materials, food and fresh water in Gaza.

It is worth noting that the Bank of Palestine has always provided humanitarian and relief support as part of its development role. This is in line with the UN’s sustainable development goals.
