The Israeli newspaper Maariv conducted an opinion poll showing a major decline in the popularity of the Likud Party led by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

According to the poll, if elections were held today, the State Camp, led by Benny Gantz, would win 40 seats, while Likud, led by Netanyahu, would win only 18 seats.

A large majority of the Israeli public (80 per cent) believes that Netanyahu must bear responsibility for what happened in the Gaza envelope.

Forty-eight per cent believe that Gantz is more suitable for the position of prime minister, compared to 28 per cent for Netanyahu, while the majority of Israelis (65 per cent) support a large-scale ground operation in the Gaza Strip, and 21 per cent oppose it.
