Israel’s actions in Gaza are “very dangerous” and are “trampling not only on international law, but also all values, norms and religious and worldly laws,” Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani said yesterday.

In his inauguration of the Shura Council’s 52nd annual session, Tamim said: “Our Palestinian brethren are living through difficult circumstances beyond the realm of imagination. It is unacceptable to remain silent in the face of the unprecedented barbaric bombing of civilians in the Gaza Strip… nor to ignore the huge numbers of its innocent victims, including children and women.”

“We are against attacks on civilians regardless of their nationality. By any party. But we do not accept double standards, nor do we accept acting as if the Palestinian children’s lives have no value, as though they are faceless or nameless.”

He went on to highlight that Israel had made clear its ” illegal intentions such as displacement”, adding that this is not an acceptable outcome. “We say enough! Israel cannot have a green light and license to kill, nor is it tenable to continue ignoring the reality of occupation, siege and settlements. It should not be allowed, in our time, to use cutting off water and preventing medicine and food as weapons against an entire population.”Israel’s actions, he explained, are “very dangerous” and include “trampling not only on international law, but also all values, norms and religious and worldly laws.”

Tamim questioned whether the current bombing campaign will ” bring security and stability to Israelis and Palestinians?” “War does not provide a solution of any kind. What lies ahead of this will be further exacerbation of suffering, an increase in the number of victims and a deep sense of grievance that breeds wrath,” he warnedAdding that the new generation of Palestinian children will grow up with the memory of the horror of the attacks and knowledge of the silence of the international community in the face of the murder of their families. What is needed, he explained: “Achieving a just and lasting peace and securing Palestinian people’s access to all their legitimate rights approved by international organisations, including establishment of their independent state on 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.”
