Haniyeh receives call from former Malaysia PM Mahathir Mohamad

The Islamic Resistance Movement Hamas announced that the head of the movement’s political bureau, Ismail Haniyeh, received a phone call on Friday from former Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad, in which he affirmed his support for the Palestinian people and their right to resistance and freedom from occupation.

The movement added in a press statement received by Quds Press on Friday that Mahathir: “Described what is happening in Gaza as a war of genocide against the Palestinian people based on a systematic plan to kill the largest possible number of the Palestinian people and liquidate their cause.”

The head of the movement praised: “Mahathir Mohamad’s positions regarding the Palestinian people, and relayed what is happening in Gaza in terms of crimes, killings and terrorism carried out by the occupation, calling on the international community to pressure the occupation to stop the war of annihilation and allow the entry of the humanitarian needs into Gaza, and expression appreciation for the position of the Malaysian people in general towards the Palestinian issue.”

Haniyeh pointed out that what happened on 7 October did not occur in a vacuum but was: “The product of the occupation’s policies and crimes over the decades against our people, our sanctities and our land.”
