Hundreds of patients and displaced families taking refuge in Al-Quds Hospital in Gaza were injured by Israeli bombs in the vicinity on Sunday evening, the Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS) has reported. “We received strongly worded threats from the Israeli occupation army to immediately evacuate Al-Quds Hospital in preparation for it to be bombed,” explained the society.

“Reports indicating threats to evacuate Al-Quds Hospital in Gaza raise deep concern,” said the World Health Organisation. “It is impossible to evacuate hospitals full of patients without endangering their lives.”

WHO Director Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus pointed out that the hospitals in Gaza are overcrowded with patients, and there is a need for more medical supplies. “Healthcare must always be protected under international humanitarian law. There should be an immediate ceasefire for humanitarian reasons, and the protection of health facilities and humanitarian workers.”

Families in Gaza are not safe, added Ghebreyesus. “Moreover, the tension over the past two nights was palpable due to air strikes, without fuel, water, electricity, communications or safe shelter.”

Over the past 23 days, Israel has killed 8,005 Palestinians, including 3,324 children, in its ongoing, genocidal bombardment of the besieged Gaza Strip.
