Egypt has “strongly condemned Israel’s inhumane targeting” of an entire residential square in Jabaliya refugee camp in northern Gaza that killed and wounded at least 400 people, Quds Press has reported.

The Egyptian foreign ministry described the bombing of the residential area as “a blatant violation of international law” and warned of the “consequences of the continuation of these indiscriminate attacks targeting defenceless civilians in their places of shelter and in the vicinity of medical centres and hospitals.” Many civilians driven from their homes have sought refuge from the bombing in hospital grounds.

The ministry in Cairo called on all countries and international parties to “categorically condemn” these attacks and to stop them immediately. It also said that the international community should assume its responsibility to provide the necessary protection for Palestinian civilians.

“There is a pressing need to unite all international efforts to ensure safe, complete and sustainable access to humanitarian and relief aid,” said the ministry, “and to alleviate the burden of the humanitarian catastrophe afflicting the Palestinian people in Gaza.”

The latest casualty details resulting from Israel’s indiscriminate and ongoing bombardment of Gaza 8,648 killed, of whom 3,542 were children and 2,187 were women.
