Israel has slammed Colombia and Chile over recalling their ambassadors in protest against Israel’s violations of humanitarian law in the Gaza Strip, and demanded them to condemn the Hamas movement, Anadolu Agency reported.

This came in a statement by Israeli Foreign Ministry spokesman Lior Haiat, published on Wednesday evening, on X platform (formerly Twitter).

Haiat claimed that “citizens of Colombia, Chile and other Latin American countries” were also among the victims of the Hamas attack on 7 October, adding that “Israel calls on Colombia and Chile to explicitly condemn the Hamas organisation”.

Israel expects Colombia and Chile to support the right of a democratic country to protect its citizens and to call for the immediate release of all the abductees

he added.

Earlier on Wednesday, Colombian President, Gustavo Petro, announced that his country’s Ambassador to Tel Aviv was summoned for consultations, in protest of the “massacre committed by Israel against the Palestinians”.

If Israel does not stop the massacre against the Palestinian people, we will not be able to stay there

he added on X.

Chilean President, Gabriel Boric, also announced that his country had summoned its Ambassador to Israel for consultations, after the latter’s violations of international humanitarian law in the Gaza Strip.

On Tuesday, Bolivia severed diplomatic ties with Israel for “committing crimes against humanity in its attacks on the Gaza Strip”.

Bolivia has previously severed diplomatic relations with Israel in 2009 in protest against its attacks on the Gaza Strip, and restored them in 2020.

The Israeli aggression on Gaza has, so far, killed more than 8,796 Palestinians, including 3,648 children. Israeli attacks against the Palestinians in the Occupied West Bank have reached 126 Palestinians, in addition to arresting about 2,000 others since 7 October.
