Canada has deployed a “small team of special operations forces” to Israel, amid Tel Aviv’s onslaught on the besieged Gaza Strip, the Global Canadian News reported, citing multiple sources with direct knowledge of the mission.

According to the report, the deployment includes Joint Task Force 2 (JTF2), Canada’s most elite and secretive military Special Forces unit which is “responsible for the most dangerous and sensitive missions the military undertakes, including counter-terrorism and hostage rescue”.

The sources said the Canadian Special Operations Forces Command (CANSOFCOM) troops had been deployed in Israel to “deal with security at the Canadian embassy; including any possible future evacuation of essential staff and liaising with the Israeli forces”.

Following the Hamas operation on 7 October, the Canadian Air Force returned 30 Israeli army reservists to the country as Canadians were being evacuated from Tel Aviv to Athens.

More than a week ago, the Canadian Forces Intelligence Command supported the unfounded claims by Israel and the US that the Israeli army was not responsible for attacking the Baptist Hospital in Gaza and the killing of hundreds of Palestinian civilians who sought refuge in the hospital after losing their homes in the Israeli bombardment.

The Israeli-US claim was refuted by the New York Times and others proving the attack was carried out by the Israeli army.
