Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said the devastating destruction in the besieged Gaza Strip as a result of the Israeli bombardment exceeds the destruction caused by the atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima in World War II.
Speaking at a joint press conference with Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, Ibrahim said: “The bombs in Gaza exceeded the extent of damage in Hiroshima during World War II.”
He also thanked Kishida for his “commitment to supporting peace in the region and providing humanitarian aid”. Malaysia has been a consistent supporter of Palestine and condemned the Israeli strikes on the Gaza Strip.
The Malaysian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has strongly condemned the “deliberate” Israeli raid on the Jabalia refugee camp in the Gaza Strip last week, which, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Interior in Gaza, led to the death and injury of more than 400 Palestinian.
The United States bombed the cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki with atomic bombs at the end of World War II, with the officially declared goal of hastening Japan’s surrender.
For a month, the Israeli army has launched a devastating aggression against Gaza, killing 9,770 Palestinians, including 4,800 children and 2,550 women, and injuring more than 24,000 others. As many as 2,060 are also reported missing under the rubble of their homes which had been bombed by Israel.
More than 25,000 tonnes of bombs have been dropped on Gaza since 7 October.
