The US said, Tuesday, it does not support a “reoccupation” of the Gaza Strip by Israel after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said his country would take “overall security responsibility” in the Territory, Anadolu Agency reports.
“Generally speaking, we do not support the reoccupation of Gaza and neither does Israel,” State Department deputy spokesman, Vedant Patel, told reporters.
Secretary (of State Antony) Blinken was fairly clear about that during his travels as well
he said.
Patel noted that the US agreed with Israel that “there is no returning to the October 6 status quo.”
Israel and the region must be secure and Gaza should and can no longer be a base from which to launch terrorist attacks against the people of Israel or anyone else
he added.
Patel’s remarks came in response to a question about Netanyahu’s controversial remarks, Monday, where he said: “Israel will, for an indefinite period, will have the overall security responsibility” in Gaza after the end of the conflict with the Palestinian Resistance group, Hamas.
